Author's Point of View, etc.

Happy Tuesday! I just added a Google Classroom lesson about Author's Point of View. When reading informational texts, "author's point of view" (standard RI.7.6) refers to the author's opinion about the topic he or she is writing about. You can do the lesson any time this week. The lesson steps are: Watch the video Read and annotate the excerpt "Daughters of Eve." Highlight words and phrases that have a strong connotation (feeling or image). Take the quiz. Think of this quiz as more of a learning tool than an assessment. I put explanations in the key. If you answer any questions incorrectly, please read the explanations carefully to help you better understand the task and skill. I chose this excerpt because it is about women's rights (or lack thereof) in Colonial times, so it relates to page 80 in Chains , when the Locktons fight. Office Hours

Happy Monday! Thanks to all who read and signed off on my Grading Policy for Remote Learning in ELA . As of this morning, there are 6 graded assignments in PowerSchool, and I am currently grading last week's assignment, the final analysis questions for Chains . In my eternal quest to make remote learning more user friendly, I have added office hours that I will keep through the end of the school year: Monday: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The purpose of this schedule is to provide students and parents/guardians with consistent two-hour blocks when you can reach me. Happy Monday! We made it to June! This video previews the week's assignments and explains the writing prompt that is due on Friday. (Apologies for the glitchy audio.)
